Our First Event

Join us on Sunday April 3rd, 2022 at Tan Oak Park for the Northern Mendocino Ecosystem Recovery Alliances (NM-ERA) kick off event and biomass cycling workshop. The Northern Mendocino Ecosystem Recovery Alliance is a new group focused on forest health and fire prevention education, community building, and workforce development.Forest health management and fire prevention brings down significant woody material to the ground via fuels reduction. This event is focused on the question: what do we do with the wood? Offering demonstrations in Biochar and Hugelkultur, along with a round table forest health discussion.

Tentative Schedule:
10 am – Opening Ceremony and Land Acknowledgement
10:45 am – Forest Health Panel Discussion
12pm – Lunch
12:45 – Light the fires – Biochar Demonstration
1pm – Hugelkultur Demonstration
3:00 -3:30 – Quench the fires, unload kiln
4pm – Event Ends

*Biochar and Hugelkultur Demonstrations will be semi-participatory and run through the end of the day.

**If you wish to help around the fire loading the kiln, please wear natural fiber clothes, bring leather gloves and eye protection.

This is the first event in a series of six forest health and fire prevention community events co-sponsored by the Northern Mendocino Ecosystem Recovery Alliance and the Eel River Recovery Project. Stay tuned for upcoming events in April, May and June.
