The Mendocino County Prescribed Burn Association is excited to announce:
Firelighter Training with HumCo PBA
April 25 beginning at 9 AM (Full Day)
Location: Tan Oak Park, Leggett
Register Here:
We are so excited to be collaborating with the awesome leaders of the Humboldt County PBA, Henri Holbrook and Gabe Goff, to offer their Firelighter training (no live fire) here in Mendocino County. This will be a great opportunity for veteran burners and those with no fireline experience alike to prepare for the fall burn season. It will also be a chance to meet and learn from some like-minded and experienced prescribed fire enthusiasts from up north.
Topics to be covered include:
- Fire environment/behavior
- Fire operations
- Being a good burn crew member
- Tools and gear in prescribed fire
- Taking weather
- Radio communications
- and more!
Sign-ups for the 20 Mendo PBA slots are on a first come, first served basis.
Lunch will be provided for all participants, so please sign up as soon as you can so we can get a headcount. Plan to be ready to learn promptly at 9 AM on Saturday and expect to end the day roughly somewhere between 4 and 5 PM. This will be an entirely field-based, outdoor training (weather permitting) so be sure to bring layers for the chilly morning time and a camp chair if you have one. Camping will be available the night before (4/24) for those traveling from farther away. Please indicate if you plan on spending the night on your sign up so we can plan accordingly.
